Enterprise Risk Management

Quick facts

Enterprise risk management is the inherent core responsibility of management. In his report ‘Shifting the management paradigm’ (A/72/492), the Secretary-General prioritized risk management and indicated that managing any risks which could prevent the delivery of mandates is a key element of managerial responsibility and accountability at all levels. The related General Assembly Resolution (A/RES/73/289) further stressed the importance of the risk management function under the new system of delegation of authority. The Secretary-General report (A/72/733) highlighted that the Secretariat will conduct Secretariat-wide risk assessments and risk assessments at the entity level to highlight major risks affecting the functioning of the Organization and the necessary actions that can be put into effect to mitigate those risks.
